South Africa Initiated The First Sunset Review Investigation Of Safeguard Measures On Imported Steel Threaded Fasteners

On March 24, 2023, the South African International Trade Administration Council (ITAC) announced that in response to the application submitted by the South African Industry Organization South African Fasteners Manufacturers' Association (SAFMA), the imported steel threaded fasteners (Threaded Fasteners of Iron or Steel) Initiated the first sunset review investigation of safeguard measures. The products involved include bolt ends and stud bolts, stud bolts and other hexagonal nuts, involving products under South African tax codes 7318.15.41, 7318.15.42 and 7318.16.30, but excluding stainless steel materials and identifiable aircraft materials of fasteners. The investigation period of this case is from August 1, 2020 to July 31, 2023, and the estimated investigation period is from August 1, 2023 to August 1, 2024.
On March 1, 2019, South Africa launched a safeguard investigation on imported steel threaded fasteners. On February 10, 2020, South Africa made a final ruling on safeguard measures for imported steel threaded fasteners, suggesting that a three-year safeguard measure be implemented in the form of ad valorem tax on the products involved.
