A Brief Discussion On Three Practical Methods For Connecting Stainless Steel Threaded Fasteners To Prevent Loosening
Oct 29, 2024
Summarize the three basic types of anti loosening methods for stainless steel threaded fasteners:
a. Non removable anti loosening
This is a reliable traditional anti loosening method that uses methods such as welding, bonding, or riveting to change detachable threaded connections into non detachable ones. The disadvantage is that threaded fasteners cannot be reused. And the operation is complicated. Commonly used in important occasions that require high anti loosening and reliability without the need for disassembly.
b. Anti loosening of mechanical fasteners
Use mechanical fasteners to fix and tighten threaded components between connected components or between threaded components to prevent loosening. The advantage of this method is its reliable anti loosening, which generally depends on the static strength or fatigue strength of the mechanical fasteners (or fasteners themselves, such as slotted nuts). Its disadvantage is that it increases the weight of the fastening connection, is difficult to manufacture and install, and cannot be flexibly installed, so the cost is relatively high. Due to its high anti loosening reliability, it is still widely used in some important parts of mechanical and aerospace products.
c. Anti loosening measures to increase friction
The method of increasing the frictional force between the thread or bolt (screw) head and nut end face, or simultaneously increasing the frictional force of both, is used to achieve the purpose of anti loosening. This anti loosening method has lower reliability than the above-mentioned Class A or Class B methods, but its biggest advantage is that it is not limited by the usage space, can be repeatedly assembled and disassembled multiple times, and can be flexibly assembled. Moreover, some of the fasteners (such as nylon lock nuts, metal lock nuts) have reached a high level of anti loosening reliability. Therefore, this anti loosening method is most widely used in the mechanical manufacturing sector and aerospace industry.
