Flange Nut Standard

Mar 20, 2023

The full name of the flange nut is hexagon flange nut, the prefix and the material are enough, as long as the thread specification is specified, the order can be placed accurately.

Flange nuts are made of ordinary carbon steel, medium carbon steel, high strength and stainless steel.
Ordinary carbon steel flange nuts are commonly used parts in some mechanical equipment and fitness equipment. There is no high requirement, and the surface is mostly galvanized.
The grade of medium carbon steel flange nuts is 8 grades, which are mainly used in some transmission connection places, which require flange nuts to have certain strength and torque.
However, high-strength flange nuts are not used much in the industrial field, mainly in the automotive industry. Stainless steel flange nuts are divided into 304 and 316 materials, just buy according to requirements.

The national standard code of the flange nut is GB/T6177, which is represented by DIN6923 in the German standard. It is the same as the general hexagonal nut. The thread design and installation method are the same, but a big one is added on the basis of the hexagonal nut. The circle, the extra round surface, can increase the friction of the nut matrix, thereby bringing better anti-loosening effect.

Stainless steel flange nut standards are just eight commonly used specifications, which are M3, M4, M5, M6, M8, M10, M12, and M16. Most of the flange nuts are used on pipes and flanges, and the specifications are less than those of the nuts. There are also two standards for the design of the round surface of the flange nut, one is toothed, and the other is not toothed. Generally speaking, large-sized flange nuts do not have teeth, while small-sized flange nuts have no teeth. During the production process, its anti-skid tooth pattern is extruded at one time. Let's take a look at the technical drawing requirements of these eight flange nuts with different specifications:

The specification of the flange nut in Figure 1 is M3, Figure 2 is M4, and Figure 3 is M5. We look at the standard of the flange nut, mainly looking at its hexagonal size, the size of the round surface and the height of the entire flange nut. These are National mandatory standards, all flange nuts of the same specification should be consistent with these parameters.

From these technical drawings, we can see that the larger the flange nut, the larger the diameter of its round surface, the better the anti-loosening performance. The specification of the flange nut in Figure 4 is M6, and that in Figure 5 is M8. The sixth is M10. You can compare these dimensions according to the specifications of the nuts on hand. Figure 7 and Figure 8 of the last two nuts are the flange nuts of M12 and M16. Let's look at the technical drawings below.

You can see that the diameter of the round surface of M16 has reached 34.5 mm, which is why the relatively large-sized flange nuts need to be customized, because it has too high requirements for the equipment, and the conventional type of equipment cannot be used at all. The wire is punched out to look like a flange nut.
